RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARANORMAL BELIEF AND PERSONALITY TRAITS AMONGUNIVERSITY STUDENT IN PAKISTAN

Abstract:

Background: Beliefs are the states of mind that individuals have about the world and their lives. Mutually supportive beliefs may develop into belief systems, such as religious, ideological, and paranormal beliefs. Objectives: The current study aimed to explore the relationship between the paranormal belief and personality traits among university graduate students in Pakistan. Sample:A total of 200 university students (100 males and 100 females) enrolled in different Bachelor and Master degree programs participated in this study. Method: The Paranormal Belief Scale and NEO-PI-R personality inventory were administered to measure the study variables, and t-test, ANOVA, and correlation values were calculated to verify the hypotheses. Results: Traditional religious belief, precognition, neuroticism, and conscientiousness were positively correlated. A significant mean difference was seen between genders. Conclusion: Paranormal belief and conscientiousness were positively correlated. Female students have higher scores on the Paranormal Belief Scale than the male students. Moreover, a significant mean difference was seen between social, physical, and biological science students.
